They are hardy and well-adapted and provide color and interest.<\/p>\n<p>First is a pink <a title=\"Salvia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wildflower.org\/plants\/result.php?id_plant=SAGR4\">Salvia<\/a> (<em>Salvia greggii<\/em>). The red-flowered plants behind it are also salvia gregii, so the plant comes in different varieties. The pink plant is about 3 feet tall and the red ones are about 1.5 feet tall. The leaves smell like mint when you crush them. The flowers are sure to attract hummingbirds and bees.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1840\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mother-natures-son.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/salvia_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1840\" class=\"wp-image-1840 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/mother-natures-son.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/salvia_1.jpg\" alt=\"salvia_1\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atp.dtn.temporary.site\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/salvia_1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/atp.dtn.temporary.site\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/salvia_1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atp.dtn.temporary.site\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/salvia_1-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Salvia<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Next is another salvia, commonly known as <a title=\"Mealy Blue Sage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wildflower.org\/plants\/result.php?id_plant=SAFA2\">Mealy Blue Sage<\/a> (<em>Salvia farinacea<\/em>). The flower spikes are about 1 foot tall on this plant. It also attracts bees and hummingbirds.<\/p>\n<p>Salvias are members of the mint family and the two examples here are perennials.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1841\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mother-natures-son.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mealy_blue_sage_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1841\" class=\"wp-image-1841 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/mother-natures-son.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mealy_blue_sage_1.jpg\" alt=\"mealy_blue_sage_1\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atp.dtn.temporary.site\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mealy_blue_sage_1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/atp.dtn.temporary.site\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mealy_blue_sage_1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atp.dtn.temporary.site\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mealy_blue_sage_1-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mealy Blue Sage<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is a close up of the fruit\u00a0on a <a title=\"Mexican Buckeye\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wildflower.org\/plants\/result.php?id_plant=UNSP\">Mexican Buckeye<\/a> (<em>Ungnadia speciosa<\/em>). This one is a small tree, about 10 or 12 feet high. The fruit have a distinctive three-lobbed shape and contain from 1 to 3 black, shiny seeds. The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and moths.
